Create a Checklist

If you want to extend checklists to your own use-cases, you will need to create a checklist. After this tutorial you will understand how to create checklists and the different options available.

Prerequisites

To create checklists, you'll need to have an account in TailScribe. You do not need to have any pets to create checklists.

Creation/Editing

  1. First, navigate to your menu.
  2. Click "Checklists", and then "Create New Checklist". This will take you to the "Create new Checklist" form.

On this form you have several options:

FieldDescription
TitleThe title of the checklist
Description A text describing the checklist
Reference LinkIn cases where the checklist is based off of an existing resource, a link giving more information on the checklist.
ThresholdThe total value of checked items required to complete the checklist. Ex: 10 points needed to complete a trick title.
TagsTags that can be used to search for the checklist.

Sections

Checklists are composed of multiple sections, sections can each have multiple check items within them. You can add sections with the "New Section" button.

Checklist Items

Each Section can contain multiple checklist items. Think of a checklist item as the actual task or item that you want to check.

There are currently two types of checklist items:

Checkbox

These are defined by the checklist creator. They are defined by the text given in the text section.

Custom field

These are set to be defined by the checklist user. In the event that there is an optional field or a "write-in" field, this allows the user to adjust it to their pet's specific needs. (ex: Write-in or freestyle sections for specific titles)

FieldDescription
Checklist TextThe actual text for the check item. It can act as a descriptor for the check or the task to be accomplished.
OrderThe order of the checklist item in the set of checklist items.
WeightThe value of the checklist item. For example, some things end up being more valuable than others. Using the example of a trick title, in some cases more advanced tricks can count towards more of the title than lower-leveled tricks.

Triggers

You can set certain check items to trigger and affect other parts of the pet within TailScribe.

Currently there is support for completion triggers, which occur when the item is checked for the user.

FieldDescription
Trigger Tag TypeIs the type of tag that will be affected on the pet. The only option available right now is "Skills".
Tag NameIs the name of the tag that will be affected by the trigger.

For example, if I enable a trigger on a check item detailing that a pet can "sit", set the Trigger Type to "Completion", the Trigger Tag Type of "Skills", and the Tag name to "Sit", when the checklist is used on the pet and that item is completed, the tag "Sit" will be automatically added to that pet's skills list.

Preview

In preview mode, you can see how your checklist will appear to other users.

Simply touch the "Preview" tab next to the "Edit" tab. You can view and interact with your checklist in a "Preview" mode. Nothing done in this mode is saved.

When you're done working with your checklist, click the "Save Changes" button!

And you're done! You've created your first checklist. In its current state you can keep adding it to your pets and test it out. You can edit it and any changes will propagage to your existing pets.

What's next?

When you're ready to share your awesome checklist with the rest of the world, you can publish it! We will cover this in the next tutorial.
